FUNNEL, MOFU, TOFU, BOFU

Jargon of marketing and sales, what do we mean when we say…

  • FUNNEL it’s a marketing concept representing the process a potential customer follows from discovering a product or service until making a purchase. It’s visualized as a funnel because the number of potential customers decreases as they progress through the stages of the process, from awareness to purchase.
  • TOFU stands for Top of the Funnel, where potential customers are in the initial stage of discovering a product or service. At this point, all efforts should be focused on capturing the potential customer’s attention, making it attractive, and generating interest in what is being offered.
  • MOFU stands for Middle of the Funnel. At this point you find potential customers that have already shown interest in the product or service but are not yet ready to make a purchase. At this stage, we aim to “educate” the potential customer by providing relevant and quality information to help them progress towards defining their purchase.
  • BOFU stands for Bottom of the Funnel, where potential customers are ready to make a purchase. We have already attracted them, offered valuable information to help them decide, and now we aim to convert the potential customer into a customer, by providing incentives or additional information that will encourage them to make the purchase decision.

In summary, the marketing funnel is the process a potential customer follows from discovering a product or service until making a purchase, and TOFU, MOFU, and BOFU are the different stages of this process.
